From an early age I have enjoyed making things together with developing new hand and machine techniques with fabric and knitting. In 1995 I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class Honours degree in Knitwear Design. Subsequently I spent several years in the textile industry working as a knitwear designer, developing commercial ranges of garments for high street stores. Since 2000 I have worked on personal projects, which I have now developed, into a viable business started in 2003. I have incorporated a longstanding interest of furnishing fabrics and textile design generally into my work, which I use in a range of soft furnishings, bags and accessories. I have developed a type of mola applique where layers of fabric are cut away after stitching together to reveal different textures and colours. The freedom of this style of work enables me to be versatile in the use of many textures, colours and forms, the possibilities are endless! I mainly use natural materials particularly merino wool and lambswool for my soft furnishings. After I have knitted the fabrics they are washed which gives the knitting a slightly felted appearance. I incorporate hand and machine embroidery into my work, which I make into functional pieces such as cushions, floor cushions and decorative hangings.
Merino wool and lambswool can be hand washed or dry-cleaned. Feather inners are used in cushions and fire retardant beans in floor cushions.
My work is suitable for corporate and private commissions, for more details please contact Daniel Hornsey at thegallery@hornseys.com or ring 01765 602878.
