Based in Rural North Yorkshire since 1995 Stephen Gillies is a glass blower. He makes each form and applies the colour . Kate Jones is an artist. She makes the patterns by removing the colour though sand blasting. Inspired by the intimate beauty of their North Yorkshire landscape, and containing it within the calm elegance of the Scandinavian glass tradition, Kate Jones and Stephen Gillies have developed a unique aesthetic in contemporary glassmaking. Once described by a captivated critic as ‘defiantly decorative’, the Gillies Jones pieces range from a signature line of small bowls in softly electric colours and funky monochromatic leaf prints to more complex and intricately coloured collector’s pieces that have found homes in prestigious art museums throughout Europe.
The harmonious balance of restraint and freedom has been a thematic thread running through the Gillies Jones body of work from the beginning.
