Member of the Northern Potters' Association. Lis' work is inspired by the beauty of the natural world and an admiration of ancient Aegean ceramics.
The pots are made using the coiling technique, whereby rolled coils of clay are added to a clay base and gradually built up to construct the complete form. Once dry the pots are bisque-fired to 1000 degrees centigrade and a dry barium glaze is applied. The blues of the glaze are achieved with copper and cobalt carbonates. Sometimes this is applied over wax resist or manganese dioxide markings. The pots are then fired to 1280 degrees centigrade.
