clare lindley

Clare Lindley is the most local of the artists that we represent. From Thornborough, near West Tanfield, she has worked in a variety of mediums for the past twenty years. Inspiration for her work stems from the Yorkshire landscape around her, myth, ritual and folklore and the idiosyncrasies of the people that she meets. She is influenced by artists including Eric Gill, Mark Ryden, Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious and the whole movement of British popular art. She is a member of the Guild of American Papercutters, a worldwide organisation and has exhibited widely, mainly in group shows, at galleries including the Museum of Pennsylvania, the Craft and Design Centre in Leeds, the Mercer Gallery, the Saltbox Gallery in Helmsley and at our gallery here in Ripon.

She has recently been commissioned to provide illustrations for the Storytelling Festival in Ripon and is now working with Daniel Bugg of the Penfold Press in York on a printmaking project.
